General
What exams are we sitting at the end of the year?
There are 3 external examinations; Mechanics, Waves, and Electricity and Electromagnetism.
How many credits are available in this course?
There is a total of 23 credits available, for a complete list of standards see here
What formulae will we be given in the exam?
The formula sheets for Mechanics, Waves, and Electricity and electromagnetism are linked to on these pages.
Can I see you for tutorials outside of class
Absolutely, you need only ask.
How can I tell if I'm falling behind?
Do you spend the vast majority of your time in class completing the assigned work?
Whenever you are unable to answer a question, do you seek assistance?
Do you do at least 1 hour of homework per week for this class?
When you receive an exam back, do you go back through it and ensure you understand where you went wrong?
If you answered no to any of these, you are likely to be falling behind. Remember, it is easier to keep up than it is to catch up.
Help, I'm falling behind! What do I do?
If you find yourself falling behind you need to do two things:
1. Stop yourself from falling behind
Identify the reason you are falling behind, and fix it. This might mean focusing more in class, increasing the amount of homework you do, or asking more questions in class.
2. Catch up
Find the earliest section in the course notes that you don't understand, and work forwards from there. Read the section's notes and answer its problems until you are satisfied you understand, then move on to the next section. If you run into difficulty, see me for assistance.
I'm struggling with the mathematics in this course, what can I do?
1. Identify the mathematics you're struggling with
The big ones are rearranging equations, Pythagoras, SohCahToa, and vectors.
2. Study that mathematics
Try one or more of the following...
